SUBTITLEDDOCUMENTARY
This captivating documentary explores the contemporary graffiti culture of Dakar, where painters, rappers and taggers have created a language of dissent and uncensored self-expression that gave prescient warning of the insurgency to come.
Aaru Mbedd is a loose group of anonymous fringe artists, who daily interact with the walls of Dakar to express their urban feelings. This film is the result of an art project that, for eight years, has tried to combine the viewpoints of filmmakers and visual artists through the lens of an anonymous wandering photographer, who paced the streets of the city up and down, in search of the genuine face of this city. This film also questions the filming of bodies in such an overcrowded space as the city of Dakar.
["The Walls of Dakar" will follow the short-film "Joe Ouakam" by Wasis Diop]
