Pudge  [2008]
DirectorAnnie Bradley
CastAnne Anglin, Laytrel McMullen
SHORT
Directed by Annie Bradley, a CFC and Sundance alumni, Pudge stars up-and-coming actress Laytrel McMullen as Violet, a pudgy 12-year-old girl who lands in foster care in the projects, and has to start all over, new school, new rules, and a frosty new roommate. Hassled by schoolyard bullies about her ill-fitting winter coat, Violet vows to earn the money to buy a new one, but when she finds employment with Edith (Anne Anglin), an elderly eccentric shut-in, Violet earns an unlikely friendship that fits her best of all.
"I wanted to make a film that dealt with the invisibility that touches us all at some point in our lives," Annie explains, "It's a story that explores our feelings of powerlessness, whether young or old, and reminds us to discover what might be unique and true about ourselves."
