From the award winning team behind Death of a President and The Last King of Scotland, and inspired by real life events, I Am Slave is a controversial thriller about London’s shocking slave trade, and one woman’s fight for freedom.

Mende Nazer wrote the book about her experience (Slave).

Producer Andrea Calderwood: “When we started researching this story we discovered that around 14,000 people had been abducted into slavery from south Sudan... there are up to 5,000 people who are being held as slaves in the UK today..."

Last April Britain made the holding of someone in servitude (domestic slavery) a crime punishable by up to 14 years in prison. The crime of forced labour is punishable by up to 14 years jail. No-one has been charged since these laws came into force.
