Charts the headlong fall of Pinkie, a razor-wielding disadvantaged teenager with a religious death wish.
Based on Graham Greene's classic novel Brighton Rock.
The movie will have its world premiere screening at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
The movie's about gangster "Pinkie Brown" (Sam Riley) who becomes involved with a tea shop waitress (Andrea Riseborough) after a vicious murder has been committed on the Brighton seafront.
Joffe wrote the screenplay and shifted the story from Greene's setting in the Thirties to the mods and rockers era of 1964, a time of what Joffe termed 'sexual modernity'.
Producer Paul Webster added that the year was also the last in which the death penalty was carried out, which in the film gives Pinkie a sense of fearlessness.
Andrea Riseborough is currently to be found in front of the camera playing the Duchess Of Windsor in Madonna's film W.E.
